We understand that Downtown Las Vegas can be a unknown quantity for some of you, especially since most of our guests drive to us from the surrounding suburbs of Summerlin, Green Valley, Seven Hills, and the like. Fear not! Getting to Globe Salon is a quick 15-minute jaunt for most, and parking is about as easy as a downtown can get. Keep in mind that, despite our Las Vegas Boulevard address, Soho Lofts, the luxury residential tower that is our home, faces north on Hoover Avenue.

So, parking at Globe Salon? Here you go:

• All of Globe Salon’s free parking is on city streets. That means you’ll need to make sure your car is displaying valid license plates and a current registration sticker.

• Hoover Avenue between Las Vegas Blvd and 4th Street (directly in front of Soho Lofts) is free 3-hour parking. Hooray!

• Hoover Avenue west of 4th Street is free parking without a time limit. Huzzah!

• All along 4th Street is free 2-hour parking, and is usually under-utilized. It’s great for shorter appointments like Fabulous Blowouts, event styles and haircuts.

• Prefer parking in a lot? The lot directly across from us (the Hoover Lot) is a metered city parking lot, generally $1 per hour.

See how simple that is? See you at Globe Salon soon!

Just in time for the holidays (and now available at Globe Salon!), the Invisibobble is unlike any hair tie you have ever used. Unlike those typical fabric-covered elastic ponytail holders we all know and loathe, Invisibobble’s unique design doesn’t leave a crease or mark in your hair when you remove it. It also eliminates the need for bobby pins in updos, and even helps avoid the headaches and split-ends that can happen with typical hair ties.

They are so easy to use that you don’t have to be a hairdresser to create great looking styles with little effort. We invite you to schedule a 15-minute complimentary style lesson with your favorite salon to teach you the latest in Invisibobble styles. At only $10 for a box of three, you can pair the Invisibobble with a Tangle Teezer brush ($16) for the perfect stocking stuffers for anyone with hair long enough to put up! ~Staci Linklater, Salon Director

We know it isn’t fun to get laid off, but it happens. That’s why Globe Salon is here to help ease the sting. If you were among the thirty employees let go by the Downtown Project this week, we want to offer you a complimentary haircut at our downtown location. Why? To be good neighbors — and to help you look your best to help land that next gig.

All you need to do is (a) demonstrate to us that you were among the 30 employees laid off from Downtown Project on September 30, 2014, and (b) make an appointment by calling us at 702-938-4247. (We will require a credit card to reserve your appointment, but you will not be charged unless you fail to arrive.) This offer is good for appointments Tuesday-Friday, ends October 31, and is limited to space availability. Let us help you get started on the next phase looking your best!

Whether it is Date Night or Girls’ Night, look no further than Globe Salon for a super blowout experience. We’re highly skilled and trained professionals who are passionate about hairdressing and know how to do it right.

It starts with easy parking, just outside our door at Soho Lofts. Once inside, you’ll slip into one of our European shampoo shuttles. With the push of a button, they elevate you into a relaxing position while massaging your back with a gentle Shiatsu motion. Meanwhile, we work magic on your scalp.

Naturally, our Fabulous Blowouts ($50/45 min) include a cleansing shampoo and essential conditioning, and at Globe Salon, that means treating your hair to the luxury of Kérastase. We pride ourselves on being Kérastase experts, and your hairdresser will use products selected especially for your hair type and condition. The results are impressive, plus you can always elect to add a transformative Kérastase Instant Treatment to your service for only $25.

Need a touch more fabulousness? We can include the use of hot tools and pins to your style (when desired) for an additional $15. Have a ton of gorgeous hair that requires more time, or clip-in extensions you need placed? We can tame any mane; just add $15 per 15 min of additional time required.

In any case, when you visit Globe Salon, you are going to get a style you love and an experience you appreciate, all from a professional salon that cares. We are not a dry bar, we are a full-service, locally-owned salon that does great blowouts as part of our daily repertoire.

Let us help you look and feel simply amazing. It’s what we do.

Did you know that men make up a significant part of Globe Salon’s loyal clientele? It’s true, and it makes sense. Our location makes us an ideal choice not only for office professionals who require neat-and-clean men’s cuts, but also for those guys working in hospitality and nightlife who want something a little more trendy or edgy. Plus, our salon’s upscale, hospitality-inspired design is comfortable for most everyone.

For some time, we have been doing a lot of men’s haircuts in the popular “barber style,” most of them the Gentlemen’s Cut we saw first adopted by bartenders in cocktail bars and Prohibition-styled speakeasies. You know the look: super short on the sides, with a hard part and a highly styled pompadour up top. It’s little bit Morrissey-meets-Public Enemies Johnny Depp, and in the past six months, it has transcended to something that almost every man wants, and there’s good reason. It’s at once stylish, neat, and masculine.

But like any trend that penetrates into the mainstream, some of the early adopters are wanting to move on to something new. Growing out a short haircut is never easy (something women who opt for the ultra-hot pixie know… or soon will!), but for those men who’d like to move away from the Gentlemen’s Cut, Globe Salon has an answer: the classic, 1950s surfer-inspired look. This style is way more Endless Summer than Spicoli, more dapper than Duuuuuude!

It incorporates a longer-length top that transitions into a slightly undercut weight line below. A great thing about this cut is that it is more versatile than that barber-style cut you are growing out. It can be worn more formally, with the top length styled into either a classic side part or swept straight back, using a wax or paste (like Kerastase’s K Baume or Bumble + bumble’s SemiSumo). Then, when the weekend hits (or you find yourself surfing), it can easily be styled into a more relaxed look, using a texture-enhancing product like Spray-A-Porter (Kerastase) or Bumble + bumble’s Surf Spray — all available at Globe Salon.

If you are still thrilled with the Gentlemen’s Cut, there’s no need to change; you are in good hands at Globe. But when you are ready for something new, something easy to transition to, Globe Salon has a plan for you. Everything about this cut makes it easy to grow into from the barber cut. With a few week’s growth, it works well no matter how severe you went, and it will continue to work as your hair grows out.

So, guys, ready for a change? Give Globe Salon a call!

Those of you who are guests (or followers) of Globe Salon likely know that, from the beginning, we have always done quite a bit of editorial work. In the past year, our Salon Director Staci Linklater has worked on four editorial fashion features for Vegas Rated magazine, her hairdressing work earning the magazine’s cover three of those times. Three covers in a year is nothing to sniff at, but we are humbled by the opportunity and thrilled each time we see our work in print. We love to stretch our creative skills by doing editorial whenever we are afforded the chance.

Recently, Globe Salon was offered an amazing opportunity that takes our professional “behind the scenes” experiences to another level. In March 2014, at the request of film studio Lola Pictures, Salon Director Linklater created three “looks” for an upcoming Gerardo Naranjo project (since titled “Viena and the Fantomes”) filmed entirely in the Las Vegas area. The looks were for actors Evan Rachel Wood, Jeremy Allen White, and Ryan LeBoeuf.

At the time, the producers understandably asked us to keep much of the information about our work on the film confidential. However, on May 10, Ms. Wood appeared on stage singing at a Hollywood gala, still wearing the dip dye / color block look done at Globe Salon six weeks before. The fashion world went crazy, with many major style and society magazines talking about it. At that point, we were given the green light to mention that Globe Salon’s Staci Linklater was the talent behind the look.

The final result!

Staci was provided with the film’s storyline plus “an inspirational photo” that led her to the blonde-and-black color blocking. As for the coloring process, it was a lengthy one, says Staci. “Evan was wearing an ombre that was a level 7 (medium blonde) at the base and a level 10 (lightest blonde) at the ends. I started with a complete color correction, lightening all of her hair, from roots to ends, to a gorgeous level 10. I did this through a series of applications of Wella Blondor lightener, being careful to maintain the integrity of the hair.”

After the correction was completed, Staci “section by section dip-dyed the ends of her hair to a level 2 (black),” starting about three inches up and working down through the tips. This technical achievement was done “very strategically,” says Linklater, who even pulled out a ruler at one point. She was careful to take into account hair movement when doing the color placement.

The result was pretty impressive — at least impressive enough for Ms. Wood to Tweet about it! Staci says that the technical coloring process was challenging, and that she is thrilled that Evan chose to wear the color in her daily life long after filming was completed.

The film, also starring Dakota Fanning, should appear in theaters in 2015. Globe Salon wants to thank all those who were involved in the production; they each were a pleasure to work with, and we cannot express how thankful we are for the opportunity. You can bet we’ll be there on opening night!

Well, folks, we’ve given it a good run, but Globe Salon will no longer be offering skin care services such as facials and microdermabrasion. Rather, Globe Salon has decided to focus our efforts on doing what we do best: Amazing hair and makeup!

As always, you can pair an Essential or Event Makeup (the latter includes fashion lashes and application) with a Fabulous Blowout or Event Style. This is the perfect combo when you need a complete look for a girls night, an important event, a party or, of course, your wedding day. (Did you know that some of the Globe Salon staff were highlighted on a Travel Channel wedding special? They are that good.)

We will be exploring other options for the space formerly occupied by our Skin Care department, so stay tuned to find out more.

Although I have written blogs here before, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I have been Salon Director since Globe Salon opened in October 2000. Since then, this salon has been both my profession and my passion. Not only do I love helping guests look and feel great, I truly enjoy finding and mentoring new talent to be the best they can be behind the chair. That passion ultimately led to my development of our Cosmetology Graduate Studies Program, or as some know it, the Globe Salon Boot Camp.

Our Graduate Studies Program for New Talent is intended to give cosmetology licensees the skills and professional salon experience they need to succeed in the Globe Salon environment. It’s important to note that while much of the twenty-five class curriculum is focused on honing advanced technical skills, much like our profession it’s not all about hair. In addition to technical classes, our hairstylists learn my proven techniques for consistency in timing and results. Gaining that advanced education and salon experience helps our team to have confidence when interacting with our guests. Another area I focus on is guest interaction. While it may be hard to believe, some who enter our profession don’t realize that you have to actually like and care about people, and you have to be engaging and interesting yourself. But even though we are the professionals and always on stage, it’s rarely about us. Most often it’s about the guest, and Globe Salon puts the guest first.

It’s no surprise then that as salon professionals, we give quite a bit to our guests every day, in our chairs and in our skin care room. Sometimes, we forget to set aside time for ourselves. In that regard, I wanted to wish our awesome Samantha O’Brien the very best as she heads out on a “midlife retirement,” where she will be spending some time on the road meeting new people and having new experiences. This is the second time in her eight years with Globe Salon that Sam has taken some time away, and just like last time, we don’t know if she’ll be rejoining us in the future. But we hope she has an amazing experience wherever the road takes her!

With that, we now swing wide the doors for others to join us. As the busy spring season arrives, Globe Salon is understaffed and turning guests away regularly. Whether you are a new licensee, or an experienced hair stylist seeking a new opportunity, if you feel you would be a good fit for the talented Globe Salon team, I encourage you to peruse our website and see what we are about. I look forward to reviewing your credentials and, hopefully, welcoming you to our family!

~Staci Linklater, Salon Director

When you visit us, you deserve a seamless, pleasant experience from beginning to end. Our Ten Core Values are what we lean on to make that happen. They illustrate an alchemy of several different components, from our unique business model to the way we recruit and reward our amazing team. Here’s what they mean to us:

Professionalism & Accountability
What we do at Globe Salon is not a hobby or something to pass the time. It is our passion and our profession. This means we take our jobs seriously, and we hold each other accountable to the highest standards of character, conduct and ethics throughout our organization. We also hold ourselves accountable to you and do our very best to engender your trust.

Guest Service, Satisfaction & Value
We work to provide Globe Salon guests with an exceptional level of service. We listen, we anticipate, and we truly enjoy assisting you to the best of our ability. We also structure our fees to be as straightforward and inclusive as possible, as well as competitive for what we offer. All of this helps us to achieve a very high level of guest satisfaction.

Creativity & Artistry
Ours is a creative trade, and we recruit those who can successfully meld creativity with professionalism. We love to stretch our legs by styling editorial photo shoots, working backstage at fashion shows, and more. Think of Globe Salon the same way you may think of an advertising agency, a magazine publisher, or any other educated, highly-trained team of creative professionals working together to achieve something beautiful and on time.

Friendly, Warm & Welcoming
We know you have plenty of salons from which to choose. Globe Salon does not take your choice to trust us for granted. We appreciate every phone call, every visit, and are happy to see each and every one of you. The only attitude you get from us is a good one.

Cleanliness & Maintenance
Globe Salon understands that providing personal services is more than just what happens in the chair. It’s how comfortable you feel in our space and how relaxed you can be when visiting us. And we know that a lot of that comes from the space itself. Globe Salon is an intimate, highly trafficked salon, but we adhere to a cleaning and maintenance schedule that keeps it looking fresh and instills confidence.

Enthusiasm for Our Profession
Globe Salon’s team is comprised of passionate professionals, thanks to a recruiting and hiring process that ensures that only passionate professionals pass muster. We are not in this business by accident; we are here because we want to be. Just as importantly, our salon’s training, education, benefits and work environment go a long way to maintaining that enthusiasm. Globe Salon is where a salon career goes to thrive.

Team Oriented
Plenty of workplaces lay claim to a team-oriented atmosphere; Globe Salon lives it. It’s hard to explain how we do this without a comparison, but it’s really very simple: We do not rent work stations to independent contractors. The result? We all have a vested interest in the satisfaction of every guest that visits us. To this end, we work together, share knowledge, teach classes, hold each other up when things get tough, and hold each other accountable when necessary. We’re a family.

Community Involvement
Globe Salon recognizes that we are a small part of a greater community — and that’s not just our downtown community, but the entire Las Vegas metropolitan area and beyond. As citizens of our community, we do what we can to give back by participating in charities, donating services and products, and sharing our time. We have also self-produced a series of very successful fundraisers called Fashion Fling. So far, Globe Salon has donated more than $42,000 to non-profits in our community.

Career Growth & Education
When licensed professionals join our team, they must work though our formal Boot Camp Program before performing critical services on our guests. That sets the bar for education and for performance expectations, but it doesn’t stop there. We are dedicated to continuing education that keeps our skills fresh. From in-salon classes to hair shows, from salon-wide advanced courses to sending individual team members to California and New York for intense training, Globe Salon knows that our profession requires constant learning.

Brand Awareness
In October 2000, Globe Salon opened as an unknown business with a big vision. In the years since, our team set the standard and gave life to that vision. We respect the fact that when you call or you visit us for the first time or the fiftieth, you have expectations of us. Our goal is to never let you down and to exceed those expectations. Our name now sets the standard for us.

Today, Joe Schoenmann — you may know him as the “Joe Downtown” who writes for the Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas Weekly — wrote this story about encouraging suburbanites to visit and explore Downtown Las Vegas. According to the story, Joe spent some time in the suburbs recently, and found that a lack of information, advertising and promotion — as well as the perceived challenge of “convenience” (or lack thereof) — keeps many suburban dwellers away from all the neat things that are happening in DTLV.

Here at Globe Salon, we find this interesting for many reasons. First and foremost, we moved to the Downtown Las Vegas Arts District in 2008, well before many of the new attractions and amenities were built. There were a few other spots, of course (kudos to the Arts Factory, the Downtown Cocktail Room, the Beauty Bar and others). But when we joined that handful of visionaries, Downtown was a different place to what it is today. Back then, people were hesitant to walk a block or two for lunch; today, dozens of new businesses have opened and street life is very active, with joggers and strollers and bicyclists and dog walkers streaming by our windows all day, every day.

But in 2008, we had to find a way to make Globe Salon’s loyal guests — the majority of whom were residents of Summerlin and the northwest, as well as Green Valley, Seven Hills, and other suburbs — feel comfortable coming to Downtown, as well as attracting their neighbors. And, we had to give them reasons to keep coming. We accomplished the first by designing our space to feel at once urban and luxe, so that when guests walked into our Downtown location the first time, they would feel comfortable. The second we accomplished by taking the success we had achieved at our original location and pushing it to another level. We aimed high, determined to excel in both guest service and in the skills of our Creative Team by creating our Boot Camp Program for new hires.

Elle Magazine recognized these efforts by naming us to its “Top 100 Salons” list two years in a row. But the best evidence of all is that almost six years after moving Downtown, Globe Salon is still attracting guests from all corners of the valley. In fact, the majority of our guests must travel into Downtown to visit us, and we do our best to point them to other things downtown we think they would like, whether it’s shopping, dining, art or nightlife. Generally speaking, our guests don’t have trouble getting here, and parking is a cinch. Some of them walk about ten steps from their car to our doors. How’s that for convenience?

Globe Salon has never seen Downtown as an island. It is a vibrant, changing place and we are thrilled to be a small part of its resurgence. But we enjoy all parts of the valley for their own unique sensibilities, and so do many of our neighbors (we can’t tell you how often we run into Downtown friends enjoying places like Summerlin’s Sambalatte or Boulder City’s Dillinger). Just as we enjoy suburban spots, we’d like to extend an invitation to those suburbanites who want to explore downtown but don’t know where to start.

So here it is: Grab your sense of adventure, come on down, stop in, say hi, and introduce yourselves. We’ll show you around the salon and answer any questions you may have. Then, we’ll point you in the right direction to have some fun in our little corner of Las Vegas. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
